Things I learned by watching the entirety of Stargate SG1

  • It’s ok to be racist as long as you’re highlighting a positive racist stereotype.
  • Sexism can be called out weekly for over a decade and nothing will be done about it. (I guess this one is actually true and not sarcasm.)
  • The US military is the absolute best.
  • It is 100% ok to sexually harass and inappropriately touch your female coworkers because you are insecure about your own intelligence.
  • Pestering your friends into communicating with their shitty family member is an act of love.
  • Hell yeah, colonizing other planets, stripping them of resources, and blowing up their moons.
  • Hell yeah, intervening into an armed conflict on another planet without knowing the full context of what the conflict is about.
  • Archeologists are actually linguists.
  • Hell yeah, some TV shows should never be canceled.

While this post is sarcasm, these are actual messages conveyed through ten seasons of TV and two direct to DVD movies. Stargate SG1 is an interesting part of TV history but I do not recommend it. The show hasn’t held up visually or culturally.
